Domestic abuse is a pervasive issue in Canada, with over 1 in 3 women experiencing it in their lifetime. Yet, despite its prevalence, many stories of abuse remain unshared due to stigmas and biases. It is time to bring this topic out of the shadows and break the silence surrounding it. Empowerment comes from sharing stories, and we can inspire those impacted by domestic abuse to come forward and speak out.

Call for Artists!
Stories & Art: No Longer Hidden is an event hosted by the Kelowna Women’s Shelter to acknowledge the prevalence and impact of domestic abuse in our community. Our next event will take place on March 6, 2025, at the Laurel Packinghouse in Kelowna, BC. This event, which is hosted in honour of International Women’s Day, will celebrate the resilience of women in our communities who have experienced abuse and help shed light on this very important topic.
We are seeking artists of all mediums including print, paint, textile, poetry, dance, singer/songwriter or other not listed to volunteer your talents to interpret the stories of women who have experienced abuse into a piece of art. Artists who also have lived experience are encouraged to participate. Please identify this in your expression of interest.
To submit an Expression of Interest, please click on "Learn More" below to access our form. To learn more about our 2024 event, read out recap blog here.
